This notice covers data processing by Markdown Drop during license activation and voluntary review submission. It does not replace the general Privacy Policy of AllyouneedisHarry.com.
2. What Markdown Drop processes
Markdown Drop converts documents on your Windows device. No document content is ever transmitted to any server. Conversion runs entirely on your local machine. An internet connection is required only once: when you activate your license for the first time.
During activation, the following data is sent to the license server at allyouneedisharry.com:
- Your license key
- The email address you used at purchase
- A SHA-256 hash of a hardware identifier (used to count activated devices; the hash cannot be reversed to identify your hardware)
- Your computer name (optional, collected only for your own overview in case you need to transfer a license; not linked to personal identity)
- Your IP address (used only for rate limiting; not stored as a full address; a truncated hash is written to a temporary file and discarded)
After activation, Markdown Drop works fully offline. No further data is transmitted during normal use.
3. What is stored
The following data is stored in the license database hosted on servers operated by Strato AG in Germany:
- Your license key
- The email address used at purchase
- A SHA-256 hash of the hardware identifier for each activated device
- The computer name provided during activation (optional)
- The number of activated devices and the timestamp of each activation
Order data (name, email, billing address, purchase amount) is stored by the shop system. Stripe and PayPal process payment data on their own infrastructure; they are independent data controllers for payment processing.
4. Reviews (voluntary)
Markdown Drop offers an optional review function. If you choose to submit a review, the following data is stored: your rating, your review text, a display name you provide, a hash of your IP address, and a reference to your license key. Reviews are only published after manual approval.
Submitting a review is entirely voluntary. It is not required to use the software.
5. Legal basis
License activation data is processed on the basis of Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR: it is necessary to verify that your license is valid and to enforce the three-device limit that is part of the license agreement.
Review data is processed on the basis of Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (your consent given at the time of submission).
6. Retention
License and activation data is retained for as long as the license is active. Order-related data (invoice and payment records) may be retained for up to ten years to comply with German commercial and tax law (Handelsgesetzbuch, Abgabenordnung).
You can request deletion of your activation data at any time by contacting Software support. Note that deleting activation data deactivates your license on the affected devices.
7. Hosting and processors
The license server and the shop run on infrastructure provided by Strato AG, Pascalstraße 10, 10587 Berlin, Germany. A data processing agreement is in place. Strato processes data only on documented instructions.
Stripe, Inc. (payment processing, United States) and PayPal Holdings, Inc. (payment processing, United States) act as independent controllers for payment transactions. Data transfers to the United States are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Correction of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Erasure of your data where no legal obligation to retain it applies (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Restriction of processing in specific circumstances (Art. 18 GDPR)
- Data portability in a structured, machine-readable format (Art. 20 GDPR)
- Objection to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21 GDPR)
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
To exercise any of these rights, contact Software support. We aim to respond within 30 days.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for this site is:
