Harry's Movie Review

John Wick: Chapter 2 pulls its protagonist back into the life he tried to escape. A former associate calls in a blood oath, and suddenly Wick is on a job in Rome that spirals into something much larger. The film works because it commits to its world without apology. This gets better. Keanu Reeves understands that.

What strikes me about Reeves here is his economy of movement. He doesn't telegraph punches with facial expressions or build-up monologues. A decision gets made and his body responds. Common brings a different energy as an assassin with history with Wick, and their encounters have weight because both actors know how to stand still and let tension breathe. Laurence Fishburne as Bowery King feels like he's operating in a different film entirely—theatrical, ornate—and somehow it works because the movie lets him.

Chad Stahelski directs with clarity. The action unfolds in long takes where you can track what's happening. There's no quick-cut confusion here. The pacing runs lean at two hours, never feeling padded. If I had to name something that doesn't land as hard, it's that some of the Rome sequences feel obligatory to the plot rather than inevitable to the story.

What stayed with me wasn't a particular scene but the film's commitment to its own logic. These are professionals in a specific world with rules, and everyone plays by them. No convenient emotional speeches. No redemption arcs that come cheap. Just people doing difficult work with precision.
