Harry's Movie Review

MobLand is a crime drama about two mob families locked in a war that threatens to destroy everything they've built. It's absolutely stark mafia style—the kind of show that treats the genre seriously without needing to shout about it. I came away convinced this knows what it's doing.

Hardy and Brosnan carry the weight here, and they do it differently. Hardy works in smaller moments, letting tension simmer beneath the surface. Brosnan commands scenes through presence alone; you believe he's the kind of man who built an empire and expects it to stay built. Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, and the rest of the cast fill the space without filler—they're serving story, not ego.

Ronan Bennett keeps things moving at 52 minutes per episode. There's no fat. The direction stays focused on the collision between these families, and the pacing never feels rushed or slack. This is how you structure a crime drama when you understand that the audience can handle complexity.

What stays with me is how cleanly the show sets up its central conflict. Two worlds on a collision course. No winking at the camera. No speeches about loyalty that nobody believes. Just the weight of decisions and the people who have to live with them.
