Harry's Movie Review

Love Under the Lemon Tree is a TV movie romance that does not try to reinvent the genre. Beck, a travel photographer, arrives on Serenity Island to compete in a prestigious competition and ends up staying at Joshua's Lemon Tree Farm. The setup is familiar, but the film works because it commits to the warmth of the premise and lets the characters breathe. Director John Murlowski keeps things light without being frivolous.

Bullock and Coons carry the film on genuine chemistry rather than scripted banter. She plays Beck as someone driven but not self-absorbed, and when she realizes Joshua has qualities worth noticing, you feel the shift happen naturally. Coons grounds the gruff farm owner without turning him into a caricature. Their scenes working together on the farm's PR have a low-key comfort that feels earned rather than forced. The supporting cast fills out the island setting without cluttering the main story.

The film moves at a comfortable pace. Ninety minutes would have felt slack, but at eighty-five, it finds its rhythm without padding. One small limitation: the secret that threatens their romance arrives late enough that you might wish the film had earned more time with it before the resolution. That said, the tonal shift is handled with care, not melodrama.

What stayed with me was how little the film needed to convince me these two people belonged together. No grand speeches. No manufactured obstacles. Just two people discovering common ground while doing honest work. It is a romantic family film that treats sentiment like something real rather than something to exploit.
