Harry's Movie Review

Predator: Badlands strips the franchise down to something simpler and stranger. A young Predator cast out from his clan teams up with a damaged android in search of a worthy opponent. The premise is lean, and the film commits to it without apology. This is exactly the kind of genre film that works because it knows what it is.

Elle Fanning grounds the android with something I did not expect: restraint. She does not overplay the mechanical nature of the character. Instead, there is a stillness to her performance that lets the audience infer what is happening beneath the surface. Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi carries the film as the Predator, and what works is how the character learns and adapts through the journey. The two actors build something that resembles friendship without ever acknowledging it directly. That economy of storytelling matters.

Trachtenberg keeps things moving. The 107-minute runtime means there is no time for unnecessary exposition or detours into territory that does not serve the story. The tone stays consistent, balancing action with moments of genuine strangeness. If I had to point to one limitation, the climactic confrontation resolves a bit too neatly given the buildup, but it does not derail what comes before.

What stayed with me is how the film treats its protagonist as a real character with agency and consequence, not as a showcase for action sequences. The android and the Predator feel like they genuinely need each other. That relationship is the spine of the movie, and it holds up.
