Cornbread Apple and Sausage Dressing Directions
- Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Place a cast-iron skillet in the oven while it heats.
- Cook the onions and canola oil in a large sauté pan over medium-low heat until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle the brown sugar over the onions and continue cooking until golden brown, about 5–10 minutes more.
- In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal mix, milk, eggs, ricotta cheese, cheddar cheese, and butter. Stir to combine. Add the onions and broccoli and fold until evenly mixed.
- Remove the skillet from the oven. Swirl or brush the olive oil to cover the bottom and sides of the pan. Pour the batter into the skillet.
- Reduce heat to 375 degrees and bake for 35–40 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool slightly before cutting into wedges. Serve immediately or at room temperature.
- Add the country sausage with sage and apples (as per original recipe context).
- Be sure to cook your cornbread at least 1 day in advance to let it dry out.
